1. Introduction

ReadXP (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a reading tracker application available on Android. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

By using ReadXP, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Data We Collect

2a. Data You Provide

Display name — optional, used only to personalise your in-app character card.
Reading sessions — book titles, page counts, session duration, notes you add.
Goals — page targets you set for daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly goals.

2b. Data Stored Locally

All reading data is stored on your device only (via localStorage / Capacitor Preferences). We do not have access to your local data unless you opt into Cloud Sync (see §2d).

2c. Account Data (Optional)

If you choose to Sign In / Register, we collect:

Email address — used for authentication only.
User ID — an anonymous identifier tied to your account.

Authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication (Google LLC). We do not store passwords.

2d. Cloud Sync Data (Premium Feature)

If you enable Cloud Sync (Premium subscribers only), your reading data — including books, sessions, goals, and character progress — is uploaded to Firebase Firestore (Google LLC) and associated with your account. This data is used solely to sync your progress across devices and restore it if you reinstall the app.

2e. Purchase & Subscription Data

Purchases are processed by Google Play and managed via RevenueCat, Inc. We receive:

Your subscription status (active / expired / cancelled)
The plan type (Monthly, Annual, Lifetime)
Purchase timestamps and renewal dates

We do not receive your payment card details or billing address. Those are handled entirely by Google Play.

2f. Crash & Diagnostic Data

We use Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) to collect crash reports and non-fatal JavaScript errors. This helps us identify and fix bugs. Crashlytics receives:

A stack trace of the crash or error
Device model, OS version, app version, and locale
A non-resettable installation UUID generated by Firebase (not linked to your email or name)
Timestamps of events leading up to the crash

Crashlytics does not collect your reading data, email address, or any personally identifying information we control. You can opt out by uninstalling the app.

We do not integrate any third-party analytics or advertising SDK.

3. How We Use Your Data

We do not sell, share, or disclose your personal data to third parties except as described in §4.

4. Third-Party Services

ReadXP uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

5. Subscriptions & Billing

ReadXP offers optional Premium subscriptions:

Monthly — auto-renewing, billed monthly via Google Play
Annual — auto-renewing, billed yearly via Google Play
Lifetime — one-time purchase, no renewal

Auto-renewal: Monthly and Annual subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.

Cancellation: Manage or cancel your subscription at any time via Google Play → Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain Premium access until then.

Refunds: Refund requests are handled by Google Play in accordance with their refund policy.

Data after cancellation: Your reading data (books, sessions, XP, badges) is always yours and is never deleted due to subscription status changes. Premium-only features (advanced analytics, extra classes, themes) become inaccessible after expiry, but your earned data remains intact.

6. Data Retention

Local data is retained on your device until you uninstall the app or clear app data.
Cloud data (if Cloud Sync is enabled) is retained for as long as your account exists. You may delete your account and all associated cloud data at any time via Settings → Account → Delete Account.
Purchase records are retained by Google Play and RevenueCat per their own retention policies.

7. Children’s Privacy

ReadXP is rated Everyone and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app does not require account creation to use core features. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal data, please contact us at the email above to request deletion.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Correct inaccurate data
Delete your data (including your cloud sync data and account)
Export your data (available in Settings → Data → Export for Premium users)
Opt out of cloud sync at any time by disabling it in Settings

9. Security

We use industry-standard security practices:

Firebase data is protected by Google’s security infrastructure
Firestore data is access-controlled per user ID (you can only read/write your own data)
We do not log or store plain-text passwords

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via an in-app notice. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
